THE LEGEND OF THE FLOWER

PURPOSE: Aladdin buys a simple lamp, but when a genie appears and offers him three wishes, he learns that getting what he wants doesn’t bring real joy. The genie’s surprise leads the children on a journey to discover what true treasure and lasting value really are. This story reminds us that real worth is found in Jesus, not in possessions, and that His love and truth are meant to be shared with others.

PERFORMANCE NOTES:

• Actors to face the audience when speaking.
• Speak slowly and clearly.
• Keep movements to the minimum when not speaking.
• Use warm eye contact and gentle smiles.
• Pause often—silence is okay.
• Focus on connection, not performance.

Scene 1 – Aladdin’s Home

PROPS AND SET-UP

• Set 2 chairs + small table (From Nursing Home)
• Lamp: Place lamp on table
• Prepare basket of flowers (off to the side)
• Money to pay Seller
• Plastic coins
• Bible
• Check music volume (very low, optional)

MUSIC: Instrumental “Arabian Nights”

SCENE 1

Narrator enters slowly and pauses center stage. Make eye contact with residents. Smile and allow time for the room to settle.

NARRATOR (center stage, calm and warm):
Welcome to The Legend of the Flower. This is a simple story about searching for happiness—and discovering that love, faith, kindness, and Truth is what really matters.

TECHNICIAN: Play Instrumental “Arabian Nights” as soft background music. Fade when SELLER exits.

SELLER (enters slowly, friendly tone, holding lamp at chest level so residents can see it clearly):
Good afternoon! I’ve traveled a long way and brought just a few special items. (Seller may gently walk closer to the front row, showing the lamp to the residents.)

ALADDIN (curious, leaning forward): What’s that lamp?

SELLER: An old lamp—nothing fancy. But sometimes the simplest things hold surprises. (Shrugs lightly and smiles.)

JASMINE (Thinking deeply.): Isn’t that true?

ALADDIN: (The lamp catches his attention.) How much for the lamp?

SELLER: Just a dollar. (Nods Kindly.)

ALADDIN: One dollar! Here you go. (Gives Seller money.)

Seller Exits. Fade music.

(Brings lamp back to table.) What do you think? Not a bad lamp for a dollar!

JASMINE: (Ignoring the lamp. Looking at audience.) Hmmm…”The simplest things hold surprises.” (Pause) Aladdin, do you ever feel like people spend their lives chasing things—but still feel empty?

ALADDIN: Yes. I think many people feel that way. (Pause. Admitting.) I sometimes feel that way.

FRIEND: (Enters cheerfully) What’s the lamp for?

ALADDIN: I bought it for one dollar! It just needs a little cleaning. (Aladdin rubs the lamp slowly and deliberately, holding it outward so residents can see.)

GENIE: (Genie enters with gentle enthusiasm—A welcoming smile is key.) Well hello there. You’ve awakened me.

ALADDIN: What!? Who are you?

GENIE: I’m the Genie. I offer two wishes—but wisdom matters more than wishes. (Genie places a hand over heart when saying “wisdom.”)

FRIEND: Two wishes!? Aladdin, wish for money!

GENIE: (Kind but serious) Money can make life easier—but it doesn’t make life meaningful.

(Genie slowly shakes head “no,” then opens hands outward.)

ALADDIN: Still… I want to try. I wish for lots of money!

(Genie gently tosses a few coins into Aladdin’s hands (or mimes it clearly).

ALADDIN: (Looking at coins) WOW! I feel important now.

JASMINE: Importance doesn’t come from what we own. It comes from who we are. (Places a hand on Aladdin’s arm.)

FRIEND: (Speak while exiting.) Come on, Aladdin. Can you imagine what we can do with all that money?!…

All exit calmly as the scene transitions.

SCENE CHANGE: Instrumental “Arabian Nights”

Scene 2 – Aladdin’s Home- Later

PROPS:

• Set 2 chairs + small table (From Nursing Home)
• Lamp: Place lamp on table
• Bible

SCENE 2

Aladdin stand, shoulders slightly slumped. Coins are gone.

ALADDIN: The money didn’t last. And neither did the happiness.

JASMINE: Aladdin, this is what we were talking about earlier. When we spend time chasing things, we still feel empty. Remember?

ALADDIN: Yeah, I remember. (Looking upward, calling loudly.) Okay Genie! Genie… what really matters? (Pause.) He’s not answering. (Head bowed.)

FRIEND: Here Aladdin. (Hands Aladdin the lamp.) Rub the lamp, and see if the Genie appears.

GENIE: (Steps forward calmly, standing slightly higher and more centered.) You called!

ALADDIN: You were right, I spent all the money. It was great for the moment, and then…I don’t know….I felt so empty.

FRIEND: Yeah! He has one wish left, right?

GENIE: Yes—one more wish.

ALADDIN: My money was quickly gone. I want something that will last.

FRIEND: Aladdin, wish to be king!

ALADDIN: King? Now that would make me someone important!

GENIE: I can offer you something much more valuable.

FRIEND: What could be more valuable? He would have power over all the land!

JASMINE: This Genie is wise. He gave you good advice last time when you wished for money. I would listen to him.

ALADDIN: I have a feeling that being a King would be great for a short while, but I don’t believe it would last.

FRIEND: You would have power over everybody, and you could make the rules too Aladdin. (Shrugs and winks.)

ALADDIN: It’s just not the right choice. (Pause.) Genie, you said you could offer me something much more valuable. What is it?

GENIE: There you go, Aladdin. You are finally asking. (Takes a flower from the bin.) Give this to someone.

ALADDIN: (Gives a flower to a resident.) Thank you for being here. You matter. (Returns to center stage.) I saw their smile. That made me happy – to see them smile.

GENIE: Now your learning the lesson…Giving is much better than getting. God created us to care for others. When we care for others, it brings us joy.

FRIEND: That was pretty cool.

GENIE: Sometimes the greatest gift is simply being present.

ALADDIN: (Turning toward the Genie.) My money didn’t last, and I was greedy. I forgot what mattered.

GENIE (firm but loving): Now, do you want a gift that will last forever?

ALADDIN: That is a long time. (Pause. Thinking deeply.) Yes, give me something that will last forever.

GENIE: (Speaks slowly. Allow pauses between phrases. Pulls out a Bible.) Now I don’t need any magic for this. This is God’s Word, and it will last forever.

In this Bible, you will see the truth. And the truth is: There is Only One TRUE KING. HIS NAME IS JESUS. Your value comes from Him—not from money or success.

ALADDIN: (Pointing to the Bible.) Can I see it?

GENIE: Sure. (Gives Aladdin the Bible.) You will see truths in here that will change your life.

ALADDIN: (Opens the Bible) (Shows it to Jasmine and Friend.)

JASMINE: (Opens the Bible to John 3:16) Read this Aladdin.

ALADDIN: “For this is how God loved the world: He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have Eternal life.”

(Pause. Thinking deeply.) Now that’s the kind of treasure that never fades.

(Hands the Bible back to Genie.)

GENIE: Who is God’s One and Only Son?

ALADDIN, JASMINE & FRIEND: Jesus! (Pause. Big smile.)

GENIE: Now, read this. (Opens Bible to John 1:12, and hands to Jasmine.)

JASMINE: “To all who believe in Jesus and accepted Him. He gave the right to become children of God.” (Pause)

I accept Jesus’ blood and sacrifice for my sins.

GENIE: Then who are you?

ALADDIN, JASMINE, FRIEND: Children of God!

ALADDIN: Thank you Genie.

GENIE: Thank God, because only the Holy Spirit opened your mind to see this.

ALADDIN: I have given a flower. But that flower will soon die. I want to give what God has given me; His Word that will last forever.

GENIE: Now is your chance. Tell everyone what you know to be true. (Hands Aladdin the Bible.)

ALADDIN: (Steps forward centerstage, humbled. Takes a deep breath, and speaks out with all his might.) JESUS IS GOD’S SON. HE LOVES YOU!(Smiles Thankfully. Hands the Bible to his friend.)

FRIEND: JESUS gave His life to pay for our sins. God the Father raised Him back to life! (Hands the Bible to Jasmine.)

JASMINE: What I know to be true: I am a fixer. I try to fix relationships, fix other people, and even fix myself. But I’ve learned that only God can truly fix what is broken—in others and in me.

Jesus made a way for us to have a direct relationship with God. Because of Him, I can talk to God about everything, day or night.

One night, as I was reading the Bible, God helped me realize something: God makes everything right. I simply need to trust Him and let Him do the fixing.

I am confident of this: The lessons I learn in God’s Word will last forever.

And this I know to be true: Through Jesus, God has made a way for us to be forgiven. We can become CHILDREN OF GOD and live with Him forever!

If you believe that Jesus loves you and you accept His forgiveness for your sins, say, “I do!”

(Wait for the audience to respond.)

(Closing Prayer)

“Dear God, thank You for Your love that never fades. Help us rest in Your peace and know the truth. Jesus, You gave Your life to pay for our all our wrongs. We ask for forgiveness. Thank You for making us Your children. We love You. In Jesus name. Amen.”
